Diet Tips - Getting Over the Weight Loss Plateau

Moving past the diet plateau may seem impossible, but it can be done with a little more work on your part.

It's a common occurrence that many are familiar with - the weight loss plateau. You're dieting, exercising, sticking to the plan and all of a sudden your weight loss comes to a screeching halt. It seems like no matter what you try, you can't get any more weight to come off. Take heart, this will pass. Here are some tips to get your weight loss rolling again.

  1. Cut more calories

According to MayoClinic.com, dropping your calorie intake by 200 calories a day can help jump start your weight loss again. It's important though to make sure you don't dip below 1200 calories, otherwise you can cause too much of a calorie deficit.

  2. Workout harder

Add another 15-20 minutes onto your time at the gym to burn even more calories. You can also increase the intensity of the workouts to get your muscles burning off the pounds.

  3. Don't panic

These plateaus are a normal part of weight loss. They happen because after a few weeks of dieting, your metabolism evens out. You have to change things up to keep losing weight.

  4. Record everything you eat.

If you've become a little forgetful about filling out your weight loss journal, that may be part of why you're at a plateau. Writing down every little morsel can help you to keep a more accurate count of your calorie intake and help you spot your trouble zone.

Don't get stuck on your plateau or give up on weight loss. You can get past this, it just requires a little more work - and patience.
