Microdermabrasion is a virtually painless method of exfoliating and polishing your skin to achieve a healthy glow and eliminate or reduce fine lines. A combination of abrasion and suction is used to take away the outermost layer of skin, which will leave your skin a pink for a few hours and then nearly perfect. Most dermatologists recommend a series of at least six treatments for optimal results. Many salons and spas offer the treatment, however, a dermatologist has access to much more powerful equipment, resulting in much better overall outcomes. Microdermabrasion is a safe and effective skin-freshening technique that helps repair facial skin that has suffered the effects of sun and aging. An esthetician uses a device like a fine sandblaster to spray tiny crystals across the face, mixing gentle abrasion with suction to remove the dead, outer layer of skin. As with other skin rejuvenation techniques, more than one treatment may be needed to reduce or remove fine wrinkles and unwanted pigmentation.
