While the exact cause of rosacea is not known, the most common symptom involves the growth of "telangietasia," dilated small blood vessels that are found near the surface of the skin, resulting in redness and sometimes excessive tissue growth or swelling. Often found on the nose, cheek, chin and forehead, rosacea can be treated with a regimen of oral and topical medications and laser therapy. Laser therapy is effective in treating redness and improving the acne-like pimples sometimes associated with rosacea.
