Hollywood Plastic Surgeon Shares Celebrity Secrets

This Beverly Hills doc has worked on many of the top celebs, and shares some of the dirt from behind the scenes in Hollywood aesthetics.

In Hollywood, celebrities depend on their looks to capture and hold the public's attention, and keep working. Many of the stars seek out help from cosmetic surgeons, but few of them will admit it. One surgeon is telling the tale of cosmetic surgery in Tinseltown.

Dr. Renato Calabria is a world renowned Beverly Hills cosmetic surgeon, and works with some of the brightest stars in the business and has some stories to tell. He says that his A-list clientele always want to keep their surgeries a secret, but sometimes it's the B-listers who let the world know they've had work done. "I think the A-list still just wants to keep it very secretive and wants to make sure the word doesn't get out but the B list is more willing to go public to try to get the media attention and help their career. Most of the time, it backfires and it's detrimental for their career. I see myself more like an image consultant than a plastic surgeon for celebrities and that's important because like a publicist sees their client over exposed - it's the same thing with plastic surgery. Some of the celebrities are getting overdone and I always kid around with my celebrities and say look, you should have me on a retainer so there should be no incentive to have plastic surgery but I can just guide you and advise you if you should have plastic surgery or you should not. And I think if this was the way you would see a lot less overdone celebrities than you see at this time."

Dr. Calabria says he's worked with some of the top A-listers in the business. "A few months ago, I was looking at a People magazine article in which they had actually a picture of a celebrity for each year, the best looking from 20 ? 70 and to be honest with you, over 40 I didn't recognize a celebrity that did not have plastic surgery. I think it's almost a must over 40 for celebrities to have some work done and again, you see the bad work out there but you don't really see the good work.... I would say 95% of celebrities over 40 in Hollywood have seen a plastic surgeon."

Dr. Calabria had to help one celebrity patient escape waiting photographers. "In front of my office right now, the paparazzi are standing there, waiting for getting a glimpse or a picture of a celebrity - so things have changed. Celebrities don't come to Beverly Hills. We tend not to do surgery on celebrities in Beverly Hills - and these were the early days when I had a huge celebrity come to my office. She had ventured to my office and while I was examining her, her husband who was a famous actor himself, stormed into the room and said, 'The paparazzi are out there, what are we going to do?' And I could see the panic on my celebrity's eyes and I looked at her and I said, look don't worry everything's under control so I take her out to the garage in disguise big glasses and a big scarf I put her in the passenger side of my Porsche put a blanket on her and here I am speeding out of the driveway where the paparazzi were just standing there with her hiding under the blanket and I was thinking to myself oh my God, I have this huge star in here - I'm running from the paparazzi."
