FDA Approves the Allergan Natrelle 410 Breast Implant

Wednesday, February 20, 2013 7:28 PM

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has approved the new silicone gel-filled breast implant

The new implant is designed to be firmer than the previous Natrelle implant. They are truly cohesive implants in a teardrop shape made of silicone gel. If the outside shell were to break down, the inner silicone gel does not leak out or deflate.

According to Allergan, the company that released the product, "The Natrelle® 410 shaped gel implant is designed to mimic the slope of the breast and is filled with a highly cohesive silicone gel, which is intended to enable the implant to hold its shape over time while remaining soft to the touch."

The Natrelle 410 is expected to compete with the Sientra cohesive as "Gummy Bear Breast Implants."

Surgeons suggest the additional cost to choose these implants over traditional is $1,000 or more.

These implants are not for every patient, probably only 15% to 20% of women are candidates. You should consult with your surgeon (or multiple surgeons) to determine what is best for your shape and lifestyle.
