Lumenis UltraPulse Fractional Treatment on "The TODAY Show" to Treat Burn Scars

Triplets treated for their burn scars with the Lumenis UltraPulse CO2 fractional laser will be featured on The Today Show Thursday, May 28. and is in the June '09 edition of Glamour magazine.

The Berns triplets, now 22, were badly burned in a home fire at only 17 months old. Until recently, there were no treatments to successfully minimize their scarring. Now, with the UltraPulse fractional treatment, they're finding relief.

The Lumenis UltraPulse CO2 fractional laser works differently from previous treatments through a deeper resurfacing technique. The laser penetrates several layers of skin to reach the collagen below and stimulate growth, bringing about dramatic results.

"The most important thing is not the device but the experience of the physician performing the treatment," said Dr. Gregory Nikolaidis, a dermatologist at Westlake Dermatology in Austin Texas.

"I have used a number of different fractionated lasers for the treatment of scars, including the Fraxel Re:store, Fraxel Re:pair , UltraPulse Active FX, Deep FX . Using the right treatment parameters, they all work well in improving the appearance of scars," said Dr. Nikolaidis.

UltraPulse delivers fractional treatments encompassing ActiveFX, DeepFX and TotalFX. Each procedure involves treating only a fraction of the skin's surface, leaving untouched skin to aid in the regeneration process. UltraPulse, the gold standard of CO2 lasers, is used to deliver a variety of low downtime treatments that can be customized.
