Pasadena, CA (PRWEB) April 1, 2008 -- Dr. Stewart Wang, a board-certified Pasadena plastic surgeon and member of the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ASAPS), is among a group of approximately 2,400 board-certified plastic surgeons in the United States who released their 11th annual cosmetic plastic surgery statistics this week. ASAPS, founded in 1967, is the world's leading organization for cosmetic surgery education and research with members in the U.S., Canada and 32 other countries.

More than 14,000 questionnaires were mailed nationwide to a random sampling of board-certified doctors in three specialties most likely to perform several or more of the 39 top cosmetic procedures. Results of the survey were used to project national data on the number of cosmetic procedures in 2007, which totaled nearly 11.7 million. This figure is a 2 percent increase from 2006 and a 457 percent increase over a 10 year period.

Plastic surgeons who are active members of ASAPS performed an average of 322 surgical procedures last year. Members also performed an average of 839 nonsurgical procedures. Dr. Wang has been an ASAPS member since 2005. He is certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery and specializes in cosmetic surgery of the face and the entire body.

"As the ASAPS figures suggest, there continues to be a growing interest in plastic surgery in Pasadena and my new office serving the Inland Empire is busier than ever," says Dr. Wang. "The procedures that are most popular nationally are also some of the most popular at my plastic surgery practice serving Pasadena, Pomona, Rancho Cucamonga, and other communities in Southern California."

According to the ASAPS, the top five surgical procedures in 2007 were liposuction (456,828 procedures), breast augmentation (399,440), eyelid surgery (240,763), abdominoplasty (185,335) and breast reduction (153,087).

Women had 91 percent of all cosmetic procedures, a total of 10.6 million procedures. Men had 9 percent of all cosmetic procedures, nearly 1.1 million procedures. People ages 35-50 had almost half of all cosmetic procedures. People identifying themselves in racial and ethnic minorities including Hispanics, African-Americans and Asians accounted for 21 percent of the total number of procedures nationwide.

"With more surgical and non-surgical options than ever before, it only makes sense that cosmetic surgery in Pasadena such as face lift, breast enhancement and abdominoplasty remains popular," adds Dr. Wang. "In addition, injectables like BOTOX® Cosmetic and Restylane® are helping people look their best without significant discomfort or downtime."
