How can you remove wrinkles and creases that are a part of the natural aging process? These can be caused by squinting, frowning, or smiling. It’s something we do all day long. Injectable fillers or fat cells taken from certain areas of your own body are two of the most common methods used to fill facial wrinkles and frown lines.

There can be allergic reactions to Injectable fillers. Patients have been known to have an allergic reaction to the bovine collagen that is injected, or to develop an allergy over time. There is a simple skin test that the patient can take before trying this process.

Fat transfer, which is also called autologous fat transplantation or micro lipoinjection, fills and plumps wrinkles and features with the patient’s own fat. This process can correct facial deformities, provide definition to cheeks and chin while using a safe, natural, non allergic procedure. The patient could even have fat liposuctioned from an area on the body, like the thighs, and then transferred to the spot that needs the filling. There are areas that will not take well to fat transfer. One example is breasts, which would make reading a mammogram more difficult, and that would interfere with cancer detection.

Fat transfer can be done in an office with a local anesthetic. A small needle, attached to a syringe, removes the fat from a donor spot. It is taken from a spot, where the fat is tightly packed, like the tummy area. The doctors will process the fat to remove excess liquid, and then with a new needle reinject into the problem area. It may take a few injections to achieve the desired correction. The fat that is harvested for this procedure can be frozen and stored for future injections.

Injections can last up to six months, and the patient’s recovery is immediate. There may be some swelling at the site for about 36 hours, but pain and swelling can be controlled with medication, making this procedure very desirable.
