Post-marketing Study of Smartlipo Procedure by Reveals Significant Skin Tightening

(PRWEB) April 28, 2009 - A cosmetic patient study is revealing significant results for the latest generation of Smartlipo. New York based cosmetic surgeon Dr. Bruce E. Katz, founder and medical director of Juva Skin & Laser Center, spearheaded a post-marketing study to determine the real-world efficacy of the Smartlipo MPX lipolysis workstation.

Smartlipo MPX, a MultiPlex technology, blends dual-wavelength lasers to dissolve fat cells and tighten skin. Dr. Katz pioneered the original Smartlipo laser liposuction in the United States and led a clinical study on the new Smartlipo MPX to be published in a peer reviewed journal.

One year ago, Dr. Katz became the first dermatologist in the nation to implement this Smartlipo procedure.

In this most recent post-marketing study, Katz, who is also Clinical Professor of Dermatology at The Mount Sinai School of Medicine, treated 20 subjects who reported unwanted skin laxity and localized fat.

In five of these patients, Katz used temporary tattoo markings to measure skin tightening through surface area reduction, and used pre- and post-surgical biopsies to test for the presence of new collagen markers.

The study revealed significant decreases in fat deposits, as well as an 18 percent reduction in skin surface area, following the Smartlipo procedure.

"What the study clearly tells us is that significant skin tightening is a realistic expectation with Smartlipo," New York Juva Skin & Laser Center director Dr. Bruce Katz explained.

"Not only that, but the procedure also encourages the formation of new collagen, which is extremely vital to skin tonicity."

Smartlipo MPX was developed by Cynosure Inc., which develops and markets a broad range of laser- and light-based aesthetic treatments.

Katz's Smartlipo MPX study was recently presented at the annual conference of the American Society for Laser Medicine and Surgery (ASLMS).
