A lactic acid based filler, Sculptra works by stimulating the layer of collagen under the skin which tightens the sagging skin above, reducing the appearance of wrinkles.

Dr. Rebecca Euwer was recently featured on NBC News 5 of Dallas/Ft. Worth, Texas discussing Sculptra's use. Patients see a gradual improvement over the first few weeks as new collagen develops, bringing about skin tightening. According to the manufacturer, the effects last as long as two years.

The immediate effects are minimal as the collagen stimulation will take some time. Many patients see this as a benefit though because the gradual tightening is less conspicuous.

The side effects are usually minimal; including redness at the injection site, bruising, and lumps under the skin. According to Dr. Jerome Lamb in his interview on Kansas City, Missouri's WDAF Fox Late News, patients are encouraged to massage their faces after injection to help prevent the lumps.

The cost varies depending on the amount of filler needed and the number of sessions required to achieve the desired result. Some patients need only one visit while others may need more. Multiple visits are typically spread out over a couple of weeks. The cost of one syringe can cost around $700. The procedure is said to be popular among the unemployed who are looking for an edge in the job market by looking younger than the competition.

As with any cosmetic procedure, it is best to see a board-certified provider and discuss all of your options, your expectations, and work together to decide the best option.
