Don't Forget the Nipples

Breast augmentation surgery has been a very popular procedure for many years, but some women are opting for just the nipple.

When having a breast reduction surgery, it's common to have the nipples reduced as well in order to maintain an appealing, symmetrical appearance. Recently though, women are going to their doctor for nipple reduction surgery as a standalone procedure or in conjunction with an augmentation or lift.

"Many women have functional or aesthetic concerns with their nipples, but today more of them are getting help through surgery," explains Dr. David Stoker of Marina Plastic Surgery Associates in Los Angeles. "More patients are taking the initiative to learn about nipple enhancements, and when they find out the benefits, they get excited about making a change they've been wanting, often for years."

Nipple problems can affect women with any size breasts and can range from an inverted nipple to an over-extended one. For some women, the problem is not only a cosmetic one, but can cause pain or trouble breastfeeding.

There are several options available for those looking for new nipples and everyone has a different idea of what constitutes the 'perfect' nipple. Discuss with your doctor what options are best for you.
