How Does Our Age Affect Our Attitude Towards Beauty?
A new survey shows that our areas of greatest concern change as we age.
In a recent online consumer study conducted by The American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS) and The American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ASAPS), it seems that the area of the body a person is most concerned about usually changes with age. The survey was conducted on the beautyforlife.com website (a joint venture of ASPS and ASAPS). The face was the largest concern for people in all age groups, with the exception of those in their thirties, for whom the abdomen/hips area was of greater importance.
The question asked of participants was "Thinking about the different decades of your life, which part of your body are you most concerned about?" The legs remained at just below 10% for all decades and hair stayed between 8 and 15% throughout. The chest, however, gained in concern between the twenties and thirties, but then steadily declined to less than 10% of respondents by the sixties. The abdomen and hips were of greater concern to people in their thirties, when about 40% of people said that was most important. That number decreased steadily, dropping to about 25% by the sixties. There are a multitude of procedures available for whatever area is of greatest concern. When diet and exercise have done what they can, oftentimes a cosmetic procedure can handle the rest. Whether it's a breast augmentation, a fractional resurfacing treatment, cellulite reduction, BOTOX or a laser lipolysis procedure, there is something out there for each concern.
