A Cure for Cankles?

We know them, we hate them. When the lower calf doesn't taper off nicely to the ankle and there is no differentiation from the two, the result is neither calf nor ankle, but rather, the dreaded cankle or fat ankle.

Americans women are concerned with "cankles" or their growing ankles. Gyms have developed specific exercises for it and there are even new shoe designs designed to disguise them. Now plastic surgeons are offering specific liposuction and laser lipolysis procedures to slim them.

Shorts and skirts are a standard in most women's wardrobes, but Natalie is unable to wear them because of her embarrassment at having cankles. Though she works in the fashion industry, Natalie sticks to pants and long skirts to hide her lower legs. She shared her story with "The Doctors" and Dr. Drew Ordon performed a 3-D liposuction procedure to sculpt her lower legs.

Dr. Ordon uses three incisions in the calf and ankle so that he is able to remove the fat from the area effectively and safely. He points out that there are key structures in the area, such as the Achilles tendon, which he must be very careful to avoid. He first injects the standard tumescent fluid which eases the break up and removal of the excess fat.

After the surgery, Natalie's legs are wrapped tightly as Dr. Ordon explains that compression garments are key to the success of the procedure. She must also elevate her legs in order to achieve her desired result. Natalie wore a short skirt on the show to let everyone see her new calves and ankles.
