Acne is an embarrassing condition that many people struggle with. In order to hide the problem, many women apply makeup to cover their blemishes. The makeup though can actually cause more harm than good as it further clogs the skin's pores making it difficult for the acne to clear up. There are several acne treatments available today and even some new makeup techniques that can assist you to see clearer skin.

Acne is caused when bacteria is caught in the clogged pore, causing a minor infection. The trouble with makeup is two fold, the application itself can cause the spread of bacteria from the hands to the face, or even from the brushes and sponges used to apply it. Secondly, the product itself may clog the pores so that the bacteria that has just gone into them has no way to escape.

So what are we to do about it? There are several options available to deal with the issue of acne that can help clear up the problem and there is another way to apply makeup that can assist in breaking the cycle of bacteria and clogging.

First and foremost is basic good skin care. Using a facial soap, make sure to cleanse your face well at the end of the day. Wash the makeup off and leave your pores plenty of time to breathe. Also, if you have difficult acne, you may want to use salicylic acid, which is found in most acne spot treatments, and apply it as directed. If your acne is still stubborn, you may want to contact a dermatologist about using a more aggressive cleansing treatment.

Another option is laser treatment. Isolaz uses gentle suction combined with laser therapy, and the manufacturer claims that it clears pores without pain and kills the acne causing bacteria. Aesthera, the maker of the Isolaz laser, says that it is the only painless laser acne treatment as well as the only system that truly deep cleans the pores from the inside out. In addition, it has received approval from the FDA for the treatment of both comedonal and postular acne. This treatment must be performed in a doctors' office.

Another option is changing your makeup routine and especially how it is applied. On "The Doctors" today, they feature the Temptu AIRbrush Makeup System which may help prevent the bacteria that causes acne in the first place. It is an airbrush technique that is easy enough to use on yourself at home which allows you to avoid using your fingers or your brushes so that there is little chance for bacteria to clog the pores.

If your acne continues to be a problem, your best bet is to contact your dermatologist for the best course of treatment. There are other medications and therapies that your doctor can recommend to work for your specific skincare needs.
