Breast Cancer Survivor is Naked Rebel With a Cause
Q: What would prompt a 49 year old woman to pose nude and have her photo shown all over the world?
A: A message of hope.
 Pamina Brassey was diagnosed with breast cancer in early 2008 and in April of that year had a mastectomy and breast reconstruction on her right breast. Her cancer was caught in stage 1 and it had not spread to her lymph nodes so she didn't have to undergo radiation or chemotherapy. Following her surgery, she decided to do something bold, and had her photo taken nude.
It appeared on the walls of the Chelsea Arts Club in London in an exhibit titled "Usher's Extraordinary Portraits" with photos by artist Brian Usher. The photo is of her torso only, with her arms raised above her head, showing her breasts post-mastectomy. The photo received immense support from around the world as soon as the British media picked up on it. Brassey hopes to increase breast cancer awareness and decrease breast cancer fear in women. She supports a charity called Handbag Amnesty which raises money to support cancer research. October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. To view the photo and read more about Brassey, click here.
