Beauty Buzz: Aesthetic Trends for October 20, 2009

The annual American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS) meeting starts this Friday and runs through Tuesday in Seattle. Keith Veseleny, AHB editor, will be there to keep us up to date on the latest trends and what's hot.
The American Academy of Ophthalmology (AAO) is meeting in San Francisco for a conference held jointly with the Pan-American Association of Ophthalmology (PAAO) from Oct. 24-27. At AHB we've seen a large increase in the number of patients looking for elective eye surgery in the last two months. The numbers had fallen off significantly in the last year and a half thanks in large part to the country's economic woes.
Zeltiq is a procedure of great interest, not currently FDA approved for fat lipolysis - Zeltiq lowers the temperature of fat cells, destroying them slowly, over a matter of weeks and months. The fat is then released into the lymphatic system in a safer, slower and more natural process then some other methods being reviewed. It will certainly be a point of discussion at the ASPS meeting.
