Like many women, Cari suffers from embarrassing acne. Additionally, her time in the sun has left her with some skin damage so she visited "The Doctors" to seek treatment for her skin problems.

Dr. Tess Mauricio treats Cari using Photodynamic Therapy (PDT) with the eMax system from Syneron. This treatment works by first applying a sensitizing cream to the skin that is activated by the specific light wavelength which varies depending on the condition being treated. This creates an active oxygen molecule that is able to destroy the nearby cells. In this case, Cari is treated to destroy sebaceous glands, that is those glands which produce oil in the skin and are a key component in acne. The eMax also treats active acne so it not only clears up current skin problems but helps to prevent them from coming back.

Cari also has sun damaged skin, making her look much older. The same system has varying settings that can be used to treat multiple skin problems. It has the capability to use either light or radio frequencies to treat the skin.

After three treatment sessions, Cari's skin is greatly improved. Right after, there is little redness or swelling, but she does have to keep her skin completely out of the sun for 48 hours.
