The Madonna Lift: Non-Surgical Fractional Eyelift Using SmartSkin CO2 Laser
Crow's feet, droopy eyelids, and under eye circles can now be treated without surgery using fractional resurfacing.
The eyes give away a lot about our age in large part because of the skin surrounding them. If you have crows feet, dark circles or drooping eyelids, it can make you look older than you'd like. Previously, the only real treatment for the eyes was an eyelift, also known as blepharoplasty. Now, doctors can treat the eyelids and skin surrounding the eye without surgery both safely and effectively with the Madonna Lift. Dr. Bruce Katz, director of New York's Juva Skin & Laser Center pioneered the Madonna Lift procedure. He visits the set of "The Doctors" with Lori, his 39 year old patient, to show how the treatment works using the Cynosure SmartSkin Fractional CO2 Laser. The fractional technology works by sending out columns of light rather than a steady beam. Using the columns of light leaves patches of undamaged skin which speeds up the healing process. The energy rejuvenates the skin's collagen so that it tightens up, reducing the appearance of wrinkles and lifting the eyebrow, making the eyes look more open. In a recent press release, Dr. Katz stated "The Madonna fractional eyelift dramatically reduces the appearance of dark circles and eye wrinkles, tightens upper and lower eyelid skin, and helps to elevate drooping eyebrows," he said. "It has a number of the benefits of a surgical eyelift without the risks and downtime. The only problem it doesn't address is bulging fat pads. Dr. Katz applies eye shields underneath the eyelid to protect Lori's eyes before he begins the treatment. No anesthesia is required other than a topical numbing cream applied to the eyelids. It takes only a few minutes in total for the treatment and several sessions are needed, generally between 3 and 5 to reach the final result. Treatments are typically done every two weeks with almost no downtime; patients can apply makeup and go back to work right away.
