Fraxel and GentleMAX on The Rachael Ray Show

Scars, freckles, and spider veins are all treated on The Rachael Ray Show.

Rachael Ray spoke to Dr. Jeanine Downie about Fraxel, a revolutionary laser treatment for the correction of skin problems. Fraxel, from Solta Medical, uses fractional resurfacing technology to stimulate the collagen under the skin and treat skin problems such as scarring.

Fractional technology works by sending several columns of light energy into the skin. These columns of light leave areas of undamaged skin between them so that healing is much quicker than with traditional CO2 laser treatments.

Before the show, Dr. Downie treated a patient with deep scarring on the back of her calf resulting from a dog bite. After several treatments, and the use of a filler called Radiesse, the patient's scar was much improved.

Dr. Downie, a board certified dermatologist, also performed a procedure live on the show using the GentleMAX machine from Candela. The machine has interchangeable parts so that the single base station can perform multiple functions. Dr. Downie treats an audience member's spider veins with the laser which targets the blood vessel and causes it to collapse on itself and disappear. She then uses the same machine with a different treatment tip on some freckles on the patient's chest and explains that the treated spots will peel away.
