Solange Magnano, Former Miss Argentina, Dies Following Butt Implant Surgery

After undergoing a cosmetic procedure, former model and 1994's Miss Argentina Solange Magnano died due to pulmonary embolism.

Solange Magnano underwent a gluteoplasty, a procedure to plump up her buttocks. Sadly, the following day she was taken to the hospital where it was found she had a pulmonary embolism and after three days in intensive care she passed away on Sunday, November 29. She was 38 years old and leaves behind a husband and twin 8 year old girls.

Magnano was well known in her home country of Argentina. She was Miss Argentina 1994 and was a regular on the catwalks of major modeling venues. The surgery was meant to plump up her rear end but resulted in tragedy.

Argentinian news reported that the injections used in her procedure were a synthetic polymer called PMMA. According to Wikipedia, PMMA is often used in the construction industry as a replacement for glass, and is known by many brand names, including Plexiglass. The material can also be used in medical applications and "in cosmetic surgery, tiny PMMA microspheres suspended in some biological fluid are injected under the skin to reduce wrinkles or scars permanently."

According to her friend, Roberto Piazza, the injections and the liquid "went to her lungs and brain." Guillermo Azar, another friend from the fashion world, said, "She only underwent the procedure because she thought it was no big deal." The procedure was performed in Buenos Aires.
