Candela VBeam Laser Makes Bruises Disappear Fast
Getting rid of embarrassing bruises can go much faster with treatment from the VBeam laser.
Bruises can be an ugly and embarrassing mark that sometimes take weeks to fully heal. They are caused by a build up of blood under the skin after an injury which could be as minor as kicking a table, or more serious, like those following surgery. Also, people heal at different rates so for some, a bruise may only last a few days, while for others a minor injury may be seen for weeks. In cosmetic surgery, bruising is a concern. Patients who've just undergone a surgical procedure to make themselves look and feel better may feel discouraged when they are still bruised weeks later. Dr. Raffy Karamanoukian, a plastic surgeon who works with Dr. Drew Ordon of The Doctors demonstrates the Candela VBeam laser for reducing the appearance of bruises with patient Colleen today on the show. Colleen had undergone a treatment to remove a scar from her temple, and wound up with a bruise that made it look as if she had a black eye. Dr. Karamanoukian describes how the VBeam works to heal that bruise quicker. The VBeam is a pulsed dye laser (PDL) that works by emitting light that is converted into heat which is targeted to specific treatment needs. It is not an immediate bruise fix, but it does speed up the healing process so that the bruise is gone sooner, usually within 24-48 hours. Dr. Karamanoukian applies the laser directly to the bruised area and it works by vaporizing the blood under the skin. The procedure takes only a few seconds and is virtually painless. The VBeam is also used to treat many other skin conditions such as port wine stains, rosacea and hemangioma. VBeam manufacturer Candela was recently acquired by Syneron Medical. Dr. K does point out that the V-Beam is not the only treatment needed following surgery. Patients should apply ice packs to reduce swelling and use an Arnica-based product to help the bruising as well. Dr. Raffy Karamanoukian treats a patient with the Candela VBeam
