Chicago Plastic Surgeons Pick Two For Free Makeovers

Two Chicago Plastic Surgeons recently chose two winners for their annual Chicago Esteem Makeover. The winners are a 56-year old Chicago Public Schools teacher and a 28-year old mechanic. The Esteem Makeover Team is made up of the two plastic surgeons, a cosmetic dentist, an anesthesiologist, an ophthalmologist, a psychotherapist, a personal trainer, a hairdresser, and a fashion consultant.

Both winners wrote to the Esteem Team in July to express their feelings about why they wanted to win the makeover. The teacher described her self-esteem issues regarding weight loss and the pain of an abusive relationship that ended in her leaving. She underwent gastric bypass surgery in 2003, resulting in a weight loss of 151 pounds. Her problem with excess skin prompted the entry to the makeover contest.

The mechanic also underwent gastric bypass surgery after weighing nearly 450 pounds at age 26. In an article in the Northbrook Pioneer Press, he was quoted saying "With the way my body is right now, I cannot wear clothes properly. It's impossible to wear pants at my waist with all the remaining skin. I'm excited to look in the mirror and see the person underneath."

Both winners have already begun working with a personal trainer and a psychotherapist. The teacher underwent her surgery on September 30, which involved a face lift, endoscopic brow lift, rhinoplasty (nose job), breast lift, tummy tuck, and thigh lift. The mechanic will have surgery later in October, and will receive a thigh lift, circumferential body lift, liposuction, rhinoplasty, and chin augmentation.
