What Is LipoSonix?

LipoSonix is a completely non-invasive body contouring device that has been purchased by Solta Medical and recently FDA cleared in the US. LipoSonix uses High-Intensity Focused Ultrasound (HIFU) technology to target and destroy fat in the abdomen and flanks. A nonsurgical approach to spot fat reduction, LipoSonix joins several other existing devices in the market that offer circumferential reduction without going under the knife.

LipoSonix is recommended for patients who lead healthy lifestyles, are near or at ideal body weight but have some excess fat (approximately 2.5 cm or 1 inch) around the abdomen area.

How does LipoSonix Work?

LipoSonix is powered with high-intensity ultrasound energy which is delivered through a hand-piece that is placed over the patient’s abdomen and/or flanks. By creating a targeted high-energy and high frequency thermal effect, surrounding tissues and non-targeted areas are undamaged while fat tissue beneath the skin is permanently destroyed.

The outer layer of skin is not damaged as the ultrasound energy from LipoSonix can be focused to specific depths of fat. Destroyed fat tissue is processed naturally over a period of 8-12 weeks. Unlike other non-invasive body contouring procedures which require several treatments, LipoSonix claims that only 1 hour long treatment is necessary to see results, in most cases up to 1 dress or pants size difference.

According to the manufacturer, 91% of patients in a recent clinical study reported improved abdominal flatness but individual results will vary. LipoSonix should not be used to replace liposuction or to take the place of a healthy lifestyle nor should it be used to lose a significant amount of weight.

How Much Does LipoSonix Cost?

Depending on the size of area to be treated, cost will vary but will be comparable to the cost of similar nonsurgical body contouring procedures and less expensive than the more invasive liposuction cost.
