There is hope for those who want liposuction results but don't want to go under the knife - Lipo-Ex. Patients have lost 2-3 inches in circumference and as much as 10 lbs in only 4-6 weeks. Lipo-Ex heats and melts the fat, even the visceral fat (that's the fat located behind the muscle wall) and that fat is then eliminated through the body's natural elimination process. No muss, no fuss - many patients describe the procedure as similar to a hot stone massage. It takes several treatments, typically once weekly for 4-6 weeks or more depending on the amount of change desired. As the fat is melted, the skin is tightened as well, unlike liposuction which only removes the fat and provides almost no tightening benefits. There is no downtime, you can return to normal activity immediately. There is no anesthesia, no injection, no incision - so no scarring and much less risk than traditional liposuction. Lipo-Ex can be used to treat many areas, the abdomen, thighs, and buttocks. The face and neck can also be treated. An additional benefit of Lipo-Ex over traditional lipo is what it does for cellulite reduction. According to Dr. Barbara Marino, board certified physician of Body Design by Marino, "We have a patient who had 8 thigh treatments: we were able to reduce her leg size gradually to the size she desired, and then for the remaining treatments we concentrated on the cellulite, which made it disappear." As with most medical procedures, you must be in generally good health to get the Lipo-Ex done. Removing the fat after it's melted does require some work. Lots of water and strenuous exercise 3-4 times a week are required so that the lymphatic system can effectively evacuate the liquefied fat. According to Dr. Marino, "There are some medical restrictions, so it’s vital to schedule a consultation before beginning treatments." There have been very few complications and usually consist of some skin redness which lasts a couple of hours, and some patients reported mild soreness of the muscles in the treated areas, similar to the feeling of a strenuous workout.
