What is eMatrix?

The eMatrix System, often referred to as Matrix or Matrix RF, is a sublative rejuvenation treatment made by the aesthetic laser company Syneron. It uses bi-polar radio frequency waves for deep dermal heating for effective treatment of wrinkles. The collagen remodeling caused by eMatrix treatments is designed for maximum penetration for consistent and effective treatment of wrinkles and acne scars.

eMatrix Facts

  • eMatrix uses sublative rejuvenation, rather than ablative.
  • Diminishes the appearance of acne scars and wrinkles on the face
  • Safe for all skin types
  • Uses radio frequency rather than laser energy.

The eMatrix system features the revolutionary elōs(tm) fractional technology which precisely heats the connective tissue within the targeted treatment area. The eMatrix applicator is the first non-laser and non-light-based aesthetic device capable of creating tunable ablation/skin resurfacing impact, simulating the effects of different types of skin resurfacing lasers used for a range of aesthetic applications.

How does eMatrix work?

The fractional bi-polar radio frequency waves transfer energy to the dermis layer immediately below the surface of the skin. The energy waves pass through the top layer without harming it, and heat the cells below the surface. When these energy waves heat the layer of cells below the surface of the skin, the energy creates a wound-healing reaction that results in the production of collagen.

The healing process leads to a tighter, rejuvenated looking appearance. According to the manufacturer, after treatment with the eMatrix system most patients showed improvement in facial parameters such as skin brightness (83%) and skin smoothness/wrinkle reduction (90%)

What are the risks?

Sublative rejuvenation differs from ablative rejuvenation because it does not use heat to activate the collagen, rather, it uses radio frequency which in turn causes the collagen to heat up without actually applying any direct heat to the skin. This avoids the 'burning' feeling some patients report with ablative treatments.

With eMatrix treatments, patients report very little to no pain at all and there is no downtime. eMatrix is safe for all skin types though patients with certain skin conditions such as eczema should not undergo treatment. Though treatment may vary, most patients require 3 treatments, each spaced around 4-6 weeks apart. Results can be seen after the first treatment and will continue to improve up to a year following treatment.

There have currently been no side effects reported and the manufacturer believes that the results will last several years, however, eMatrix is new so there's no way to know for sure how long the results will last.

How much does eMatrix cost?

Cost varies depending on the market, but it is generally between $750-$1500
